Layton Triathlon Race Report The 3rd Annual Layton Triathlon went very well. Over 400 racers came to participate in the Rinse, Ride, Run and Repeat at the Layton City Surf N Swim and Layton City Parks. The weather was another great day with a high of around 94 degrees. This July triathlon welcomes the heat because of the jumping back into the water for a second leg on the swim. Swim bike run and swim bike run! For the kids triathlon we had 100 strong kids 12 and under do a great job. The kids triathlon is often like hearding cats in that if one racer goes off course there is usually around 4 more that follow them. For the most part we were able to keep the kids on the course except those 5 that made a right turn into a parking lot for no reason and got a few more yards out of the race. Ogden Aquathlon - September 24, 2011 We are excited to be hosting the Ogden Aquathlon on September 24. This race has 3 distances: Short Aquathlon - 300 Meter Swim & 5K Run Long Aquathlon - 600 Meter Swim & 10K Run Run Only - 5K This race will benefit Sigma Alpha Epsilson WSU scholarship fund. It will have a swim in a lap pool similar to the CVSST or the Layton Triathlon and then have beautiful fall run near WSU and around Beus Pond in Ogden. Fall is one of the best times of the year to run because the weather is cooler, the air is crisp and trees are changing. Due to this event not having a bike portion we were able to produce it for $35 for either aquathlon or $25 for 5K. We hope you check it out. It should be a great race for years to come.Check out the header of this email above to see what the terrain will look like for this run. www.ogdena.comLayton Marathon - October 8, 2011 The 2nd Annual Layton Marathon is quickly approaching. Last year we had just over 1000 runners test out this course and the feedback was great. The run starts out on Antelope Island, the Largest Island on the Great Salt Lake. It courses around 10 miles of paved road on the island passing hundreds of buffalo, deer, birds, and antelope. The Great Salt Lake is always on east of your run on the island and it makes for a beautiful view the entire way watching the sun rise of over the Wasatch Mountains on the Lake. After the first 10 miles you hit the 7 mile causeway which spans the Great Salt Lake. We always contact mosquito abatement to treat this portion a few days prior to the race which keeps most bugs near the lake down to a minimun. The last 9+ miles follows farmers roads into a residential area and finishing at Ellison Park in Layton. The course is extremely flat with only 200 feet of elevation change the entire run. For this reason it is not only a Boston Qualifier but the only course in Utah that can give you a qualifying time for the Olympics and the World Records. This year we have a team of 4 individuals that will be shooting for a World Record in the category of 4 man runners being bungied together. They are all averaging less then 3 hour marathons and this puts them on track for this record. We hope you try out the Layton Marathon this year and be apart of this growing race. http://www.laytonmarathon.com We extended early bird pricing until Sept.1 so do not wait to register. Powell3 Triathlon Challenge - October 22, 2011 Similar to the Bear Lake Brawl Triathlon this race is in its 5th year. This course is a beautiful race in Wahweep Marina in Lake Powell. The landscape is similar to that of Zions and southern Utah. It is a little more expensive race due to the National Park capping it at 300 participants and charging us big money for every sign and ranger we use. We would not do it if it was not worth the views and it is a perfect end of the season race. Most people stay in the, discounted for racers, Lake Powell Resort. It is inspiring and a great race. http://www.powell3.com Remember the River Rail Relay for May 12, 2012!!! The River Rail Relay will start at Gardner Village in South Jordan and finish in Clinton Utah. This course follows the Jordan River Trail to the Legacy Trail to the new Rio Grande Rail Trail. Though this is a city based course it highlights the best of Salt Lake City and Davis County's trails and does not feel like a city course at all. The cost is low and the support of the course will be high. There are two options a 4 person 3 leg relay or a 2 person 6 leg relay. Though the transfer points will have aid and bathrooms it will be impossible to put enough aid stations on the course to give someone a station every 2 miles so we require each team to provide hydration belts that they can fill at the tranfer points. The three legs for each runner is not finalized yet but we plan on them being one 10K and two 5Ks for three runners and three 5Ks for one runner. We are still trying to finalize this and it should be posted soon regarding this. For more information please go to http://www.riverrailrelay.com Starting location Gardner Village South Jordan
